Hey Big Spender

Above still from Shirley-BBC

From Cardiff to the stars!

Thank God for BBC dramas. The good old beeb came up with a fantastic biopic of Shirley Bassey this week with the stunning Ruth Negga playing Shirley. Ruth's bone structure is enviable but her portrayal of Bassey was genuinely really good. As a big fan of 50s/60s style I was glad  to see mid century lounge set design, make up and fashion. Bassey was so glamorous and her hair do's, false eyelashes and sparkly dresses are completely timeless.

All hail the original diva.

I really like the Kanken bags and was pleased to see on their website that they do a special edition white version with a percentage of the money going to help save Arctic Foxes (Fjällräven means Arctic Fox in Swedish) which I think is just great. Definitely something that I am going to ask for as a gift at Christmas time. I love the way outdoorsy clothes are so evocative of growing up in the countryside, country walks, crisp mornings, homemade cakes and troughs of hot chocolate. As my off duty look pretty much consists of jeans, Vans trainers, horn rimmed glasses, comfy jumpers and my old Barbour jackets I think a Kanken would really top it all off!

Babes

After an amazingly good family weekend in Denmark (photos up soon) eating loads, partying a fair bit and hanging out with the clan a hell of a lot I have to say congradulations to my older cousin and his lovely lady who are going to have their first baby next spring. This got me thinking about stylish children and I have to say I love a good dolly outfit especially 60s inspired with peter pan collars with fairy tale refernces.

Give thanks

Check out this cute bracelet that my boss bought back from her trip to Paris! It's from the Merci store but I like that it reminds me to say 'Merci/thank you' for all the good things.

Thank you this week, to my sister for being there, my best friend Flo for her wonderful pasta & cheese, my housemates, my family, my grandad for baking me pies and London for being a sunny crisp Autumnal place this morning.

Merci!!!!

Slam Dunkin

Floral Dunks by Liberty make me happy. They remind me of country summers even though the weather is city autumn outside!

tangerine dream

I have stormed through another book-My life in Orange by Tim Guest it is the biography of the fantastic (unfortunately, late) Tim Guest and his time growing up within a commune. The book has a fantastic human tale and documents a very different childhood to  my own. Nothing is over-egged, no one completely vilified and everything is told through the eyes of an incredibly bright and astute child. The book is both relate able and completely alien simultaneously and it is a true delight to read. Both thought provoking and escapist.

As the Sayans of the commune only wear colours of the sun, I thought I would pick out a few orange and red things I am lusting over- dresses by Christopher Kane, shoes by Miss Selfridge.(This is what I would wear if I had a fashion commune).

Think I may have a bit of a peruse and see if I can find any good commune photography. Will report back.
