tangerine dream
I have stormed through another book-My life in Orange by Tim Guest it is the biography of the fantastic (unfortunately, late) Tim Guest and his time growing up within a commune. The book has a fantastic human tale and documents a very different childhood to my own. Nothing is over-egged, no one completely vilified and everything is told through the eyes of an incredibly bright and astute child. The book is both relate able and completely alien simultaneously and it is a true delight to read. Both thought provoking and escapist.
As the Sayans of the commune only wear colours of the sun, I thought I would pick out a few orange and red things I am lusting over- dresses by Christopher Kane, shoes by Miss Selfridge.(This is what I would wear if I had a fashion commune).
Think I may have a bit of a peruse and see if I can find any good commune photography. Will report back.

Day One
I have found that August has been a month of reading for me and I devoured One Day by David Nicholls in 2 days (whilst holed up in SW London cat sitting!) so I am just in time for the release of the film version- although I am doubtful that Anne Hollywood Hathaway will be able to do justice to the love able and relate able protagonist Emma.
The book is a roller coaster of love, life, despair and depression following one man and one woman on the same day for 20 years. The structure is great, the prose is warming yet honest and not too flowery, it is a book that completely immerses you in the world of these characters and gives you hope (although it has an unhappy ending) that though one year things might not be going great a lot can change in 12 months let alone a lifetime and that romance can exist in the every day.
Highly recommended to you all- we will see if the movie can deliver the same emotion and down to earth warmth of the book!(can't wait to see the 90s style though)

Mail Man

In other news I have just finished reading Post Office by Bukowski and it is tremendous. Lucky for me my house mate loves 60s beat writing as much as I do so I get to borrow her books for my commute to work. Post Office perfectly captures a dead end life monotonous job and hand to mouth existance. The protagonist Henry you neither like nor dislike, all I know is that I wouldnt want to go out with him, he seems to absolve himself from all responsibilities and drift around physically at times but mainly metaphorically.
In summary this book is easy to read, easy to enjoy, and easy to emphasise with given the current state of the job market.
Here is a little collage I made inspired by the book.
Maybe I will start doing a little book review with collage everytime I finish one.
I did also just read 'He's just not that into you' but it depressed me so might not bother with that one!
