Day One

I have found that August has been a month of reading for me and I devoured One Day by David Nicholls in 2 days (whilst holed up in SW London cat sitting!) so I am just in time for the release of the film version- although I am doubtful that Anne Hollywood Hathaway will be able to do justice to the love able and relate able protagonist Emma.
The book is a roller coaster of love, life, despair and depression following one man and one woman on the same day for 20 years. The structure is great, the prose is warming yet honest and not too flowery, it is a book that completely immerses you in the world of these characters and gives you hope (although it has an unhappy ending) that though one year things might not be going great a lot can change in 12 months let alone a lifetime and that romance can exist in the every day.
Highly recommended to you all- we will see if the movie can deliver the same emotion and down to earth warmth of the book!(can't wait to see the 90s style though)
